Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Tuesday that he "would think about" having former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes join his campaign as a consultant but that the subject has not been "broached."

"Roger's been a friend of mine for a long time and he's done an incredible job ... but nobody has actually — Roger has never mentioned it to me at all," Trump told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview.

"I would think about it. We have a great team.

"We have a great campaign going," Trump said. "But Roger is a very capable guy and he's a friend of mine."

Ailes, 76, stepped down last week as founding chairman of Fox News Channel amid a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and discrimination by former anchor Gretchen Carlson. He remains a consultant to the cable network through 2018.

A longtime Republican political consultant, Ailes has served such presidents as Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

He founded Fox News in 1996.

Reflecting on Monday's speeches at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Trump praised first lady Michelle Obama's remarks to the Hollywood Reporter.

"I thought her delivery was excellent," Trump said. "I thought she did a very good job.

"I liked her speech."
