The Justice Department’s inspector general is reviewing how the department and law enforcement agencies handled the Capitol riots, Fox News reports.

The department’s internal watchdog Michael Horowitz announced Friday that his office will “examine the role and activity of Department of Justice and its components in preparing for and responding to the events."

He said the review will “include examining information relevant to the January 6 events that was available to DOJ and its components in advance of January 6; the extent to which such information was shared by DOJ and its components with the U.S. Capitol Police and other federal, state, and local agencies; and the role of DOJ personnel in responding to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.”

Horowitz isn’t the only one investigating the incident at the Capitol. Internal watchdogs at the departments of Homeland Security and Defense and the Interior Department, which oversees the Park Police, have also launched their own reviews.

According to Fox News, U.S. Capitol Police said that they had only prepared for First Amendment activity to take place while lawmakers were gathered to certify the election results.

The investigation Horowitz’s office is carrying out will likely include an assessment of intelligence that the Justice Department and FBI had collected before and after the storming of the Capitol.

The Washington Post first reported that the FBI announced one of its field offices put together an internal bulletin that warned of the possibility of violence directed at Congress.
