The Department of Defense will now focus its Operation Warp Speed to coronavirus therapeutics after agreeing to buy $375 million on Wednesday of Eli Lilly’s yet-to-be-proven antibody treatment, according to the Washington Examiner.

In the next two months, the government will purchase 300,000 doses of a therapeutic called bamlanivimab at the initial price. It then has an option to buy up to 650,000 more doses for an additional cost of $812.5 million through June 2021.

The DOD announced the deal alongside officials from its Operation Warp Speed partner the Department of Health and Human Services.

''The Trump Administration’s commitment to supporting potentially lifesaving therapeutics will help deliver these products to American patients without a day’s delay,'' HHS Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement.

Operation Warp Speed has already funded the development of six vaccines, which the FDA may authorize to satisfy a goal set by President Donald Trump to provide 300 million vaccines by Jan. 1, 2021.

''The safety pause has now been withdrawn,'' Azar said. ''But it also emphasizes very much the prioritization that we have safe and effective vaccines, that we are following the highest ethical standards to ensure that these vaccines are safe, and that those clinical trials are conducted to the highest regulatory and ethical standards as well.''
