Vice President Joe Biden is "not interested" in being chairman of the Democratic National Committee after leaving office in January, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.
"The vice president is not interested in being DNC chair," Kate Bedingfield told CNN, "but he intends to remain deeply involved in helping shape the direction of the Democratic Party moving forward."
Among those seeking to succeed interim chair Donna Brazile are former Gov. Howard Dean, D-Vt., who once served in the post, and Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.
The committee will hold its elections in the spring, CNN reported.
Biden, 74, will leave Capitol Hill in January after 36 in Congress and eight years in the White House as vice president.
