Front-running GOP contender Donald Trump will either be the party's presidential nominee or "the litmus test that will determine who is the nominee," political analyst Dick Morris tells
Newsmax TV.
In an interview with "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner, the author of
"Power Grab" says the "dumbest thing" Trump rivals can do is to "hit Trump and oppose him."
"Trump either will be the nominee, or he will be the litmus test that will determine who is the nominee," Morris said. "The only one who can beat Trump is Trump, if he makes a major mistake."

Morris said
Jeb Bush's criticism of Trump as not a true conservative is "marginalizing himself, whereas [Texas Sen. Ted] Cruz is helping himself by not criticizing Trump."
Morris also predicted President Barack Obama will "ultimately support" his vice president, Joe Biden.
"Forget [Hillary Clinton's] email problems and her legal problems, that could take her out entirely," he said. "[W]ith the left-wing of the party supporting [Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie] Sanders … and the minorities supporting Biden, taking their cue from Obama, I don't think there's enough left for Hillary, and the likelihood at that point is that Biden wins the nomination."
Morris reiterated his recent speculation that
Obama is "behind all the stuff leaking out about Hillary."
"I've always thought that it was very possible that Obama would say, 'look, I worry that Bill will move to the center like he did when I was working with him, I worry that Hillary is such a go-with-the-wind person that she can't be counted on, and I want a loyal acolyte who's going to mouth my policies straight through,'" Morris said.
"And he certainly has that in Biden."
