Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said Sunday he’s long been making the argument that you need a crime to impeach and remove a president — and none has been presented against President Donald Trump.

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Dershowitz said he’s invoked an argument by former Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Curtis in defense of former President Andrew Johnson “way, way, way before I was given the role to argue the constitutional case” against Trump.

He also defended a flip-flop in saying in 1998 about President Bill Clinton that a crime isn’t needed to impeach him, but now argues the opposite for Trump.

“I’ve been immersing myself in dusty old books and I’ve concluded that no, it has to be a crime, it doesn’t have to be a technical crime,” he said. “That’s what scholars do — that’s what academics do.”

Dershowitz also said a tape made public by Lev Parnas that shows Trump demanding to “get rid” of U.S, ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch doesn’t contain any impeachable offenses.

“I only want to speak to what’s an impeachable offense… Much of what was presented by the democrats were not impeachable offenses. They were campaign ads… [that’s] exactly what voters ought to be deciding on.”
