Alan Dershowitz expressed hope to Newsmax TV on Friday that the impending report on the alleged altering by an FBI agent of a FISA court surveillance warrant for former Trump campaign aide Carter Page will affect "the minds of open-minded Americans who put truth over partisanship."
"It's very important that the inspector general's doing this report, because he's nonpartisan," the Harvard Law School professor emeritus told Jonathan Gilliam on "America Talks Live" in an interview. "He's a career person.
"He's not a Republican or Democrat. He doesn't have any partisan interests.
"He has a terrific reputation for integrity and truth-telling," Dershowitz said. "So, he's going to come up with facts."
Dershowitz is the author of the new book, "Guilt by Accusation: The Challenge of Proving Innocence in the Age of #MeToo."
CNN reported Friday that the FBI official is under criminal investigation after allegedly altering the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court warrant.
The finding is expected to be included in Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's review of the agency's effort to obtain warrants on Page.
Horowitz is to release the report Dec. 9, and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee two days later.
He has turned over evidence to John Durham, the federal prosecutor appointed by Attorney General William Barr to investigate intelligence gathering for the Russia investigation by the FBI, the CIA, and other federal agencies.
Dershowitz told Gilliam that he was looking forward to Horowitz's report.
"He's just gonna put the facts out," the retired professor said. "If there are people who still in the Justice Department or the FBI, he can recommend sanctions — internal sanctions — against them.
"I think it's going to be a very interesting read.
"But I don't think it's going to dramatically change the minds of the Democrats, who are determined to impeach and remove the president, or the Republicans, who are determined not to," Dershowitz added.
"Let's hope it impacts the minds of open-minded Americans who put truth over partisanship."
