Immigration arrests and deportations are rising under the Trump administration — but they are still short of peak levels under President Barack Obama, The Washington Times reported Thursday.
Citing the latest statistics released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, The Washington Times reported more than 191,000 people were booted from the country through the first nine months of the fiscal year — a 9 percent increase over the same period in 2017.
The deportations cover both illegal immigrants caught at the border by Customs and Border Protection, and around then rest of the country by ICE, which notched a 17 percent increase in arrests so far this year, the news outlet reported.
Of the deportees, nearly all of them either had criminal records, or were defying previous deportation orders, The Washington Times reported.
Deportations over the past nine months are higher than the same period in fiscal year 2016, which was the last full year under Obama. In 2012, the Obama administration had deported 310,000 people by this point — 40 percent more than Trump, The Washington Times reported.
