President Donald Trump has created jobs as he promised during his campaign, but it's been through the "attorney full employment act," mocked Rep. Denny Heck, D-Wash., The Hill reported Friday.

Heck was referring to the growing number of legal teams forming as a result of the special counsel investigation into whether Russia meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The investigation expanded this week and now includes possible obstruction of justice by the president as well as possible financial crimes by Trump associates.

"I think the president has placed an incredible emphasis on jobs, jobs, jobs this week — think about all the lawyers that got hired this week," Heck told MSNBC.

"[Vice President] Mike Pence hired a lawyer, everybody else is hiring a lawyer. Former [FBI] Director [Robert] Mueller has hired 13 lawyers. He promised during the campaign to create jobs and he is. This is the attorney full employment act," he added.

Democrats and Republicans largely approved of the naming of a special counsel last month to oversee the investigation, The Hill explained. Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller in May to lead the probe.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Trump was considering firing Mueller over credibility issues, and Rosenstein is thought to be considering recusing himself since he could be a witness in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

"Evidently the White House is considering firing Mueller. For the love of God, can we get back to the original thing that was proposed, the independent commission, and get away from all these entanglements?" Heck said.
