Republicans and Democratic senators said that President Donald Trump's perceived negative action on Obamacare actually had a positive effect in forcing them to come up with a better deal, Axios reports.

By nixing the cost sharing reduction (CRS) subsidies, Trump forced both parties to action, resulting in a bipartisan bill they announced Tuesday that would stabilize the Obamacare insurance markets.

"I think both sides are motivated to get something that keeps the market stable," Sen. John Thune told Axios. "The one thing that the president deciding to do that, did, is forced them to come to the table."

"Frankly, after the president did what he did, the negotiations got better for us," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, Axios reported.

Now, whether the bipartisan deal sponsored by Sens. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Patty Murray, D-Wash., can get passed is another story.

After first giving it kudos publicly, the president later backed away from it; conservatives hate the bill because it preserves insurer bailouts, Axios reported.

"I continue to believe Congress must find a solution to the Obamacare mess instead of providing bailouts to insurance companies," the president said during a speech Tuesday night.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump called it "a very good solution."

Regardless, Alexander-Murray is a good start, Freedom Caucus chair Mark Meadows said, adding that more work needs to be done.
