Forty-seven percent of voters prefer a Democratic candidate, while 40% would back a Republican in a generic congressional race, according to a new poll by The Economist/YouGov.

Here are how the results, released Wednesday, break down:

  • 79% said they were satisfied with Republican candidates now running for the GOP nomination for president, while 21% wished there were more choices.
  • 82% were satisfied with the Democratic candidates running for president, compared to 18% who wished there were more choices.
  • 25% say they are better off financially than they were a year ago, 45% say they are about the same financially and 20% say they are worse off.

The poll, conducted Sept. 28-Oct. 1, surveyed 1,087 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
