Hillary Clinton is being urged by Democrats to "just take the shield away from the heart" and appear more open in the remaining weeks of the U.S. presidential race.

Democratic lawmakers fear recent polls showing that Clinton's Republican rival Donald Trump is catching up to her requires a dramatic departure from her close-to-the-vest demeanor.

"Her decades in this arena have taken their toll. When you're hit a lot there’s almost an unconscious shield that controls the answers to your questions," Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, told The Hill.

"I think she's got to get rid of that and just let herself be. Everybody that knows her, loves her. They know her heart is full. That’s what she ought to do, just take the shield away from the heart."

As well, Vice President Biden recommended Clinton let her hair down a bit.

"The truth is Hillary knows it's a problem and she's trying to figure out how to remedy it. My advice to her, the best way to remedy it, is to talk about what you care about. Talk about it with some passion," Biden told CNN.
