Dems Write to Wray, Rosenstein, Warn of GOP 'Attacks'
FBI Director Christopher Wray

Leaders of the Democratic Party suggested to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that they should remain steadfast and not give in to Republicans' demands regarding requests for information about the Russia investigation.

On the same day the pair testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Wray and Rosenstein were sent a letter signed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi; Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer; Rep. Adam Schiff, ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee; and Sen. Mark Warner, vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The unclassified letter talked about "attacks" against special counsel Robert Mueller from Republicans who claim the Russia investigation, which is looking at whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, is not legitimate and has been tainted by officials at the Justice Department.

"As the attacks on the special counsel intensify, it is imperative that you withstand pressure on DOJ and FBI to violate established procedures and norms," the letter reads. "Your role in preserving the integrity of the special counsel's investigation and, most importantly, our justice system has become even more vital.

"Unfortunately, DOJ and FBI are increasingly bowing to this pressure, despite the corrosive implications. Unlike the Clinton investigation, your agencies are disclosing sensitive material to Congress even though the Russia investigation is ongoing under the leadership of the special counsel and your oversight. And given the pending nature of the special counsel's investigation, these persistent and unrelenting document requests are not for legitimate oversight purposes."

Republicans on several congressional committees have requested and received more than a million pages of documents related to the Russia probe, but the lawmakers continue to seek additional information and claim the DOJ is stalling on certain document requests.

House Republicans have even threatened to open articles of impeachment against Rosenstein because of the delays.
