Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., announced in an e-mail to supporters Tuesday that he’s running for the Senate seat of retiring Republican John Ensign. The three-term congressman focused in the e-mail on his fight against "reckless government spending," The Hill reports.

"As families across Nevada struggle to pay their bills and fight to keep their homes, Barack Obama and his beltway allies are proposing record spending that will add to America's job-killing debt from a stratospheric $14 trillion to a staggering $20 trillion," Heller wrote.

"In 2008, I stood up to former President Bush, then-Senator Obama, and Washington special interests and said no to the Wall Street bailout," Heller added.

A recent poll from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling showed Heller in front of every potential Democratic candidate in the race.
