Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis, who has earned recognition among conservative circles after she was jailed refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, lost her reelection bid Tuesday.
Davis lost her reelection bid for Rowan County clerk by an estimated 4,210 votes to 3,566 votes, reports The Hill, with all 19 precincts reporting.
She became nationally known by refusing to issue the licenses after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, and was jailed for refusing to comply with a judge's order to issue five licenses.
Elwood Caudill won the nomination by defeating David Ermold, who Davis had denied a marriage license.
