Columinst Eats His Words Over Wrong Trump Prediction

Seven months after Washington Post writer Dana Milbank said he would eat one of his columns if Donald Trump became the Republican presidential nominee, he made good on his word Thursday.

"Here we are, at the Washington Post world headquarters, for a very sad moment," Milbank said in a video posted to the newspaper's website.

"I'm seated, ready to eat my words, literally, from what I wrote last Oct. 4, saying if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination, I will eat the page on which this column is written. And I am about to eat that column to make good on my promise, my faulty prognostication."

Post food critic Tom Sietsema joined Milbank at the table, who he said "did nothing wrong."

Del Campo Chef Victor Albisu cooked the eight-course meal for the pair, although the video only shows the first two courses — paired with some of Trump's wine, of course.

The first course was a form of ceviche with pureed newsprint. It also contained some lightly fried calamari, which had been dusted with newsprint beforehand. Shredded newsprint served as a garnish.

The second course was tortilla chips sautéed in a spicy tomatillo sauce and served with avocado, a fried egg, and a fried piece of newspaper that was meant to resemble a chip. There was newsprint in the sauce too.

Milbank joked that getting the last bite of newsprint down was tough, so he reached for his glass of Trump Sauvignon Blanc.

"There it goes," he quipped.

Trump has not actually won the Republican presidential nomination, but he became the party's presumptive nominee last week when his two challengers, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, suspended their campaigns.
