Daily Express US Poll: Trump Won Debate, 45 Percent to 34 Percent

A snap poll shortly after Tuesday night's presidential debate gave an 11-point win to former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.

The survey of 600 likely American voters, conducted by the Democracy Institute for Daily Express US, found 45% of the respondents thought Trump won, compared to 34% for Harris, the publication reported Wednesday.

Another one-fifth, or 21%, of the respondents, said the matchup resulted in a draw.

However, the poll also found that the debate did not change voters' minds, with more than half saying the performances they saw did not make either Harris or Trump more attractive as presidential candidates.

The poll shows that 53% of the voters said Harris' performance made no difference in whether they were likely to vote for her; 24% said they would be more likely to pick her; and 23% said they'd be less likely to choose her.

With Trump, 51% said his performance made no difference in their decision; 27% said they'd be more likely to vote for him, and 22% said they were less likely.

The national poll party identification was 35% Democrats; 35% Republicans; and 30% independents.

The survey used an interactive voice response, with recorded questions played for randomly dialed respondents. Answers were given using telephone keypads.

The results were weighed for demographic and political variables that included party identification, age, gender, education, income, voting history, region, and households using only cell phones.

The poll carried a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points and had a 95% confidence interval.
