Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Monday slammed The New York Times for the “stunning” correction issued on its story of a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh from his time as a student at Yale.

The allegation hinged on the recollection of a Yale classmate who the news outlet reported contacted the FBI and lawmakers during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.

The essay was based on a forthcoming book written by two Times reporters.

But in the book, "The Education of Brett Kavanaugh," the woman declined to be interviewed. Moreover, her friends said she did not recall the incident.

The Times issued an editors’ note on Sunday that reads: “An earlier version of this article, which was adapted from a forthcoming book, did not include one element of the book's account regarding an assertion by a Yale classmate that friends of Brett Kavanaugh pushed his penis into the hand of a female student at a drunken dorm party. The book reports that the female student declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident. That information has been added to the article.”

Cruz retorted: "READ stunning NYT CORRECTION. If a high-school freshman did this on a school paper, he’d get an F. This is an outfit that has won multiple Pulitzers; presumably they know how to be actual journalists. It’s almost as if the reporters, editors, publisher have a political agenda.”
