Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Sunday the Department of Justice should investigate former vice president Joe Biden’s involvement in Ukraine if there’s “credible evidence” of illegality, urging a release of the transcript of those conversations between Biden and the Ukraine government.

In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Cruz also said he sees nothing illegal about President Donald Trump’s controversial telephone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

“I believe the Justice Department should investigate violations of law. If there's credible evidence of a violation of law, yes, they should investigate” Biden, he declared.

“I think President Trump wisely released the transcript of his conversation with the Ukrainian government,” he said, adding, “a lot of what the Democrats have been alleging of a quid pro quo were not backed up with the transcript.”

“The administration should do the exact same thing for Joe Biden… it should release the transcripts of Biden’s conversations with Ukraine.. use the same standards… and let the American people decide.”

Cruz also said he was sorely disappointed in the NBA decision on Hong Kong protests after the Chinese government objected to a tweet of support from the Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.

“Sadly, the NBA began this series of apologies,” Cruz said.

“It was really sad to see an American company and indeed a global sports league like the NBA being dragooned into censoring the free speech of American citizens in the interest of big bucks,” Cruz said.
