The renowned conservative groups American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS are placing ads in House races for the first time this election cycle as part of a fresh $10.6 million advertising blitz.
Most of that money will still go the presidential campaign — $8.3 million from super PAC American Crossroads, Politico
reports. Meanwhile, advocacy group Crossroads GPS is devoting $2.3 million to Senate and House races.
The first House race to receive a Crossroads ad is New York’s 1st Congressional District, where Republican Randy Altschuler is mounting a spirited challenge against Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop. That’s merely Crossroads’ opening salvo in House races.
“Crossroads looks to spend in the tens of millions of dollars to keep the Republican majority in the U.S. House and promote a conservative agenda utilizing a variety of platforms — research, polling, phone calls, direct mail and television advertising,” Crossroads spokesman Nate Hodson told Politico.
As for the new presidential ads, they will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia. The Senate ads will appear in Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
The presidential ads will have a shift in tone. Instead of ads heavy with data about joblessness and the weak economy, they will seek a more personal connection with voters through anecdotes of worried small business owners.
