A new political ad from Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden blasts President Donald Trump for attacking governors who haven't lifted coronavirus stay-at-home orders.
“The buck stops here,” the ad's narrator says. “Harry Truman said it. It means no excuses. It means taking responsibility, the ultimate responsibilities for the biggest decisions in the world. Every great president has lived up to it.”
The ad hasn't hit broadcast airways yet, but the Biden campaign may weave it into existing television ads for the candidate in the future.
“Donald Trump thought the job was about tweets and rallies and big parades,” the narrator in the ad concludes. “He never thought he’d have to protect nearly 330 million Americans. So he didn’t.”
It appears to be a roadmap for how Biden intends to attack Trump, focusing on what he will likely call the president's slow response to the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing economic fallout it has caused.
The ad uses snippets of Trump's attack against governors who have been critical of his response.
“The governors are supposed to be doing a lot of this work,” Trump is heard saying in the ad. “We’re a backup. We’re not an ordering clerk, we’re a backup.”
However, the majority of voters have approved of how Trump has responded during the pandemic, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.
