Lewandowski: Manafort Should Resign If He 'Signed Off' On Melania's Speech

Donald Trump's former campaign manager said Tuesday whoever gave the "final sign off" on Melania Trump's Monday night speech should face the consequences.

Trump's speech at the Republican National Convention contained two passages that seemed to be lifted and slightly changed from Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

"Whoever signed off with the final sign off that allowed this to go forward should be held accountable," Corey Lewandowski said on CNN.

"I think if it was [campaign chairman] Paul Manafort, he would do the right thing and resign. If he was the last person who saw this happen and has brought this on the candidate's wife, I think he would resign because I think that's the type of person he would be."

Melania Trump was initially praised for her speech, but she's been the topic of conversation all day Tuesday because of the plagiarism claims.

The campaign has denied any plagiarism took place.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said it would be "reasonable" to fire Trump's speechwriter if the passages were in fact taken from an earlier speech.
