President Donald Trump is a "gracious" man who never asks people for loyalty, but instead wants people who are willing to work hard and share his vision, Corey Lewandowski, who served as the president's first campaign manager, said Monday, while labeling both fired FBI Director James Comey and his deputy director, Andrew McCabe, as liars.
"Jim Comey didn't spend much time with President Trump or President-Elect Trump," Lewandowski told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" co-host Sandra Smith. "I spent tens of thousands of hours with him over the course of a multiyear period. I can tell you the president is the most gracious man I've ever met."
Trump is very concerned about others' well-being, he added, and "never in all my tenure standing, sitting next to then-candidate Trump or President Trump did he ever ask for loyalty."
"What he wants are people willing to work hard and share his vision to get things done for America and it's a reasonable request," said Lewandowski.
"What we've seen from Jim Comey is that he and his best friend Mccabe, [they] are passing barbs at each other saying the other one is a liar," said Lewandowski. "We see it's a tale of two lies. We don't know who is telling the truth because they both have their own version what took place. What is true is both Jim Comey and Andrew McCabe have done serious damage to a very important institution."
Comey, in his new memoir, describes Trump as a mob boss, but Lewandowski has complaints of his own about the former FBI director.
"This is the same Jim Comey who I think was in charge of the Boston FBI, under the regime of Whitey Bulger, the most notorious gangster our country has seen in the last 50 years," said Lewandowski. "His FBI and the Boston bureau didn't do anything about it. This is the same Jim Comey in charge … at the time where we had a terrorist attack in Boston. This is a man who failed time and time again as head of the FBI to protect American citizens and now he wants to say the president of the United States, a duly elected president, is a mob boss? Jim Comey lost all his credibility when he lied under oath in front of Congress."
