Donald Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said the GOP presidential nominee called thanked him after accepting the nomination at the Republican National Convention.
According to Politico
, Lewandowski, who is now a CNN commentator, told the network's "New Day" program Friday morning, "Mr. Trump called to actually say thank you for the hard work that I put in for the campaign and I obviously said thank you back."
He congratulated Trump and called the nomination "a big night for him and his family," then criticized CNN for doubting the billionaire developer's success.
"They did a great job, 14 months of hard work, that they put in when many, many pundits, including many people at this network, said he would not be a serious candidate," Lewandowski said. Adding that he believed Trump would win the presidency.
"Donald Trump has proved every pundit wrong, shy of a very few who said he would be where he is today. And he will continue to prove the pundits wrong who say he can't beat Hillary Clinton in November," he added.
The Trump campaign fired Lewandowski after internal power struggles. He is currently a political commentator at CNN covering the Trump campaign and has continued to support the GOP nominee, including helping billionaire donors
set up a super PAC in support of the real estate mogul.
