Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's strong statement toward Russia "speaks volumes" and shows that the Trump administration will not tolerate the use of chemical weapons in the future, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday.
Tillerson issued an ultimatum to Russia - you're either with us or you're with Syria.
"When you see the very resolute actions of President Trump late last week after he said exactly what he said he would do on the campaign trail, which is consult with his generals and his national security team, weigh the facts and the evidence, and take action, he did that," Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program.
Trump, though, will continue to "hold his cards close to his vest," said Conway.
"This is in the interest of our nation for the commander-in-chief and the president, his national security team, to take action privately."
Conway also provided an update about White House activities planned for Tuesday, including Trump's meeting with numerous CEOs.
"This president is taking decisive action that is helping job creators, job seekers, and job holders with all the tax policy talk, the tax relief packages that are underway here ... a very collaborative process in the early stages where the president will make good on a centerpiece to make relief on corporate tax relief," said Conway. "You've seen about half a million jobs created since he has begun here. You're seeing American manufacturing 93 percent confidence levels, that's up from 66 percent just a year ago."
Meanwhile, the Trump White House will work with Congress, including Democrats "who would like to listen to their constituents and pass meaningful tax reform," said Conway.
"President George W. Bush had the support of 10 or 12 Democratic senators in June of 2001 when we had seen major tax overhaul package passed. Many of them were up for reelection in the following year. We have got 25 Democratic senators defending their seats next year."
