Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway Thursday ridiculed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for her eight-hour floor speech on Dreamers, saying "serious leaders" don't pull such stunts.

"Serious leaders negotiate behind closed doors," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "They don't need to grandstand and showboat for all the world to see."

Pelosi, D-Calif., Wednesday protested the House's stalled immigration talks by speaking on the House floor for over eight hours, sharing several stories about the nation's Dreamers.

Earlier on Wednesday, congressional leaders reached a two-year budget deal, avoiding a federal government shutdown.

The California lawmaker, a former House speaker, said she and her caucus will not support any deal that does not include a commitment from House Speaker Paul Ryan to vote on an immigration bill protecting Dreamers, or people covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Conway said Thursday she does not know what Pelosi got out of her record-breaking speech, except for a "lot of criticism from Democratic members and also from dreamers."

Pelosi, she continued, demanded "certain things and walked away with none of them."

President Donald Trump, however, has been "very clear about the four principles he expects from meaningful immigration reform," said Conway. "It's the wall. It's a resolution for the DACA recipients. It's the end of the Visa lottery system and certainly an end to chain migration."

But as for Pelosi, "what is she putting on the table? Eight hours on one issue and didn't get anything done."

Meanwhile, Conway said the president is committed to keeping the United States safe, and the new deal funds the military and in keeping with the National Defense Authorization Act, so "we're very pleased that that money is there for our men and women in uniform."

Several conservatives are saying they do not agree with the budget deal, complaining that it hikes government spending, and Conway acknowledged that the deal is "not perfect."

At the same time, she said, Trump "all along has called for certainty. You can't do these short-term things anymore."

"Such certainty is needed in an "economy that is booming," said Conway, and the new deal provides critical funding for infrastructure, to address the opiate addiction issue, for veterans, and for rebuilding the military.

"This president is rebuilding our military's readiness, [and] also rebuilding our military's morale, and both have been ignored for a very long time," she added.
