Conway: Fired Aide Kelly Sadler May Qualify for Other Admin. Jobs

There may be another job opening in the Trump administration for Kelly Sadler, who was quietly fired from her White House communications job on Tuesday, about a month after her comments about ailing Sen. John McCain were made public, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday.

"I spoke to her," Conway told CNN's "New Day" co-host John Berman. "She no longer works on this complex and there are a number of open positions throughout the administration for those who wish to submit for them, interview for them and I think that they match up nicely with different individuals, press and communication skills."

Conway said she could not comment on why Sadler was released, and that she was not involved in the decision specifically.

Sadler, a special assistant to the president, compiled and distributed talking points to administration allies.

Last month, during a private meeting with other communication officers, Sadler reportedly joked that McCain's opposition to CIA Director-nominee Gina Haspel "doesn't matter; he's dying anyway." The White House did not deny the comment was made.

Conway said Wednesday there are "other administration jobs open to her and to others that would like to interview for them," but she denied that she was saying that Sadler's comment about McCain would not disqualify her for another administration job."

"There are opportunities throughout the administration that would fit with different skill sets," she said, attempting to switch the topic to the latest jobs report. "We're also very happy, again, that 6.7 million jobs are available to Americans all across the country and that this president has invested considerably in workforce development and apprenticeship programs because that will help people to choose all types of careers. This president …"

"You're not closing the door," said Berman. "You're not closing the door to an administration job because of what she said about John McCain, pure and simple, correct?"

"Kelly Sadler has been told there are administration jobs that fit with her skill set and her experience and that the rest is really her choice what she would like to do next," said Conway.

"This is the first time she doesn't have a White House job, but apparently is going to have other opportunities within the administration," said Berman.

"I'm going to leave that up to her and her future employers," said Conway.

"I don't feel comfortable commenting on personal and personnel at the same time when the individuals involved are not here to speak about it, but again, we're diverting because that's what you do when there's a lot of great news about North Korea summit coming up."
