If you think Wisconsin’s contested Supreme Court race is a mess, you ain’t seen nothing yet. With Democrats and Republicans at each other’s throats around the country, any close race in 2012 will likely produce the same kind of brouhaha as Wisconsin’s
Politico reports.
It’s certainly happened in the past, witness the 2000 presidential election in Florida and the 2008 Senate race in Minnesota.

“The political parties and the partisans and the money folks really piled into this thing [Wisconsin race] like it was a preview of a presidential race,” said Republican strategist Curt Anderson, whose firm worked for conservative Justice
David Prosser. “Most of the advertising was about the candidates, but almost all of the money and almost all of the organizing was about a much bigger fight.”
