Almost 100 prominent conservatives have issued a pledge to congressional Republicans holding them accountable for their failure to make progress on multiple policy issues.

The Conservative Action Project last week issued a pledge to hold Congress accountable for "prioritizing congressional recesses over accomplishing any substantive policy goals," and pointing to the recent omnibus spending bill, which President Donald Trump said "nobody read," as just one example.

“Trump’s statement is reflective of a dysfunctional Congress that spends too much, writes bills in secret while disallowing debate and amendments, and lurches from crisis to crisis while prioritizing congressional recesses over accomplishing any substantive policy goals. The Senate, in particular, has also failed to use measures available to them to confirm the president’s nominees. As a whole, the Republican majority is failing to effectively represent the voters who sent them to Washington.”

The group demands that Congress "delay August recess until government funding legislation has been openly debated in the House and Senate with a full opportunity for votes on amendments, and is approved by both houses and sent to the President;” and that the Senate "delay August recess until sufficient progress has been made confirming the president’s nominees."

The pledge is signed by close to 100 people, including former Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, FreedomWorks president Adam Brandon, attorney Cleta Mitchell, and multiple members of former President Ronald Reagan’s administration, such as former Attorney General Edwin Meese.
