The total number of "pink slips" dispatched to members of Congress telling them their bosses don't want government control of healthcare, energy, or speech is approaching 4 million in just a few weeks.
"This is causing quite a stir in Congress and we're just getting started," said Faith2Action President Janet Porter, who came up with the idea and WorldNetDaily (WND) implemented. "It's unprecedented and has captured the attention of even those who haven't been listening to the town halls and tea parties."
WND launched the program about three weeks ago allowing Americans to send individually addressed "pink slips" to every member of Congress for just $29.95. To date, the total is pushing 3.75 million. Many of the "pink slips" are just arriving, after Capitol mailroom authorities delayed delivery because of the sheer volume.
The program aims to advise members of the U.S. House and Senate that they could be facing a "pink slip" as early as 2010 if they vote for more spending, socialized medicine, cap-and-trade legislation, and a hate-crimes measure.
Porter, who also is a WND weekly columnist, said, "We set a goal of 5 million pink slips to members of Congress. It looks like we were too conservative in our projections. We will likely surpass that goal. . . This is unprecedented. It's a new record for getting the attention of Congress in such a short span of time."
The program has earned the endorsement of members of Congress.
"Ultimately, it is the private citizen who is the final judge on the success or failure of the government," said Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo. "The 'pink slip campaign' serves as a good reminder of the unavoidable fact that every member of Congress answers to their constituents and that they ignore their voices at their own peril."

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., also offered her support, saying, "The pink slips program is a great way to get the attention of members who have forgotten they will have to answer to the people next year on out-of-control spending and Washington power grabs. I support it. And I want my constituents to know I hear them loud and clear."
Strong support also has come from Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.
Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND, said, "I think this might be our last chance to give congressional Democrats something to think about before they destroy the country. It might be our last, best hope of stopping the madness."
The effort clearly reveals, Farah said, "that Americans are mobilized to take action to stop Washington's plans for bigger, more expensive and more intrusive government."
The "pink slips" specifically warn that senders will oppose in the next election any member of Congress who votes for more spending, intrusive legislation that restricts personal freedom, and more Big Government programs.
The powerful American Family Association also has agreed to support the campaign by publicizing it to millions of its activist members.
"It's our version of a stimulus program," Farah said.
The program is based on several other successful programs of the past, including one last summer that delivered 705,000 letters to senators protesting a "hate crimes" bill dubbed by critics as "the Pedophile Protection Act."
"I believe this is already the most successful grass-roots effort in history," Porter said.
