The House Judiciary Committee's upcoming impeachment hearings will be "another sideshow" aimed at trying to get at President Donald Trump, Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking Republican on the committee, said Monday.

"We don't know who their witnesses are yet," the Georgia Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "We don't know how to prepare. We have asked for fairness. We have not got an answer back on that."

Sunday, the White House said in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler that Trump's team "cannot fairly be expected to participate in a hearing while the witnesses are yet to be named and while it remains unclear whether the Judiciary Committee will afford the president a fair process through additional hearings."

Collins also on Monday rejected the idea of censuring Trump instead of impeaching him.

"You don't give in to people who are viciously going after you for no reason," he said. "This president has done nothing wrong. He should not be censured."

Instead, Democrats who say they're looking for the president's censure are looking for a way out, said Collins.

Collins also reacted to former FBI attorney Lisa Page's interview with The Daily Beast, where she said she is finished being silent in the face of Trump's attacks on her.

"It's amazing now how all these folks have started coming out as the Horowitz report gets closer and (John) Durham continues his investigation," said Collins. "How they are trying to paint themselves is as concerned patriots or concerned citizens. We have already seen the transcripts and text messages. We know they have hated this president and despised, even more, the people who voted for him. This is another attempt to try to deflect attention before what might be a very bad week for them next week."
