Senator to Committee: 'I'm at the Wrong Hearing'

Sen. Dan Coats made a blunder in the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, entering the wrong committee hearing and speaking with a witness before realizing his mistake.

Indiana's Coats, a member of the Appropriations Committee, mistakenly went to a different subcommittee hearing and started commending a witness about a letter he had written regarding a military accounting office in Indiana.

Coats had his facts right, but the witness, undersecretary of treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence David Cohen, was slightly confused.

An aide finally slipped Coats a note that explained the situation.

"I just got a note saying I'm at the wrong hearing," Coats said.

Cohen quipped, "Well, that would explain why I didn't know anything about this letter."

Coats left the meeting and eventually found where he was supposed to be, in another meeting room down the hall.

Later, he made light of the situation on Twitter.
