Just over half of Americans believe President-elect Donald Trump will do a good job as president, and will fulfill his goals, but fewer people approve of how he has handled his transition activities up until now, a new CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday reveals.
According to the poll of 1,003 adults, conducted from Nov. 17-20:
- 53 percent say they think Trump will do a very or fairly good job as president.
- 46 percent approve of his handling of the transition, while 45 percent disapprove.
- 40 percent say they have a lot of confidence in Trump to deal with the economy.
- Nearly three-quarters say Trump is likely to repeal and replace Obamacare.
- Two-thirds think he will renegotiate NAFTA.
- 60 percent say he'll create good-paying jobs in economically challenged areas.
- 63 percent say they expect the economy to be in good shape a year from now, the highest share to say so since September 2012.
- 51 percent say he'll reduce Washington corruption.
- 50 percent say he'll defeat ISIS.
- 48 percent say the Mexican border wall will be built.
- 66 percent say a Trump presidency will bring change to the country.
- 43 percent say it will be change for the better, twenty points below the 63 percent who thought Obama would bring change for the better in November 2008.
Trump's favorability has also risen post-election to a high point, with 47 percent having a favorable view and 50 percent unfavorable. In July, just after the GOP convention, 43 percent saw him favorably.
The poll carries a margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
