Hillary Clinton has widened her lead over Donald Trump since the Democratic convention, a new poll shows.

The Monmouth University survey released Monday shows the candidates' support level among registered breaks down like this:

  • Clinton: 46 percent
  • Trump: 34 percent
  • Libertarian Gary Johnson: 7 percent
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein: 2 percent.

Among likely voters, the support is:

  • Clinton: 50 percent
  • Trump: 37 percent
  • Johnson: 7 percent
  • Stein: 2 percent

Clinton's share of support ticked up slightly after the Democratic convention, but the widening gap is due mostly to a drop in support for the GOP nominee, USA Today reports.

In a survey before the convention, Clinton led Trump 43 percent to 40 percent, USA Today reports.

In the 10 swing states that were decided by less than 7 points in the 2012 election, Clinton leads Trump 42 percent to 34 percent, the survey shows.

The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

"The dust is starting to settle on the tag-team conventions, with the net advantage going to Clinton," Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute said in a statement.

The survey finds Clinton's use of a private email server while secretary of states continues to dog her candidacy, with 64 percent of voters saying she hasn't been honest about it. Still, 63 percent say they're tired of hearing about the issue, and 34 percent say the media should continue to cover it, the poll finds.

"Clinton's email problem continues to dog her, but it's a negative that may have already maxed out its potential impact," Murray said in his statement.
