Hillary Clinton Supporters Hold Fundraising Meetings in New York

Hillary Clinton may still be on the fence about her political future -- at least publicly -- but her supporters are already meeting to talk seriously about raising money for a future presidential bid.

About two dozen potential donors met Thursday in New York with some of her key supporters to discuss strategy for funding an independent political action committee already formed to help push the former secretary of state into the 2016 race, CNN reports.

The breakfast meeting followed a luncheon event Wednesday in the Big Apple for potential donors, both aimed at gearing up the Ready for Hillary PAC and setting in motion what many political observers see as the inevitable.

"The event is part of a big push to expand Ready for Hillary's finance committee and boost fundraising numbers before the June 30 filing deadline," a source, who asked to remain anonymous, told CNN of the group's goals. "Those attending will hear from [Clinton friend and adviser] Harold Ickes and learn more about Ready for Hillary and why it is important to invest in the organization early as a means to put Hillary in the strongest position possible should she decide to run for president."

Clinton, 65, has made it clear that she wants to remain engaged, if not officially committed yet, in the political debate. She recently joined Twitter, even though she has said little about her political future. Her profile reads: TBD.

But Democrats are hopeful that the most powerful woman in their party will step up for a 2016 bid after a hard loss to Barack Obama in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary.

Clinton, speaking at an event in Toronto last week, may have given them more reason to be hopeful, Forbes reported.

"Hypothetically speaking, I really do hope that we have a woman president in my lifetime," she said. "I hope that we will see a woman elected because I think it would send exactly the right historic signal to girls, women as well as boys and men. And I will certainly vote for the right woman to be president."
