Clinton: Sanders' Comments on My Qualifications 'Silly'

Hillary Clinton said Friday that Bernie Sanders' comments earlier this week claiming she is not qualified to serve as president were "silly," and she'd take him over "Donald Trump or Ted Cruz any time" to win the race for the White House and the voters will have the final say about who wins the nomination.

"I think it's kind of a silly statement," she told NBC's "Today" show anchor Matt Lauer   about a fiery Sanders speech on Wednesday, when he repeatedly questioned the former secretary of state's qualifications.

However, she commented that Sanders' attack, based on comments she had made about the "questionable answers" he gave in a New York Daily News interview, show a "misrepresentation" and a "historic amnesia," as Sanders has supported President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State John Kerry in their presidential bids.

"Each one of them has, according to him, not been qualified," Clinton told Lauer. "But I think, in the heat of the campaign, people say lots of things. I want to stay focused on the issues. There are contrasts between us. And I think that's fair game."

Also in Friday's interview, Clinton criticized GOP front-runner Donald Trump's comments on many hot-button issues as being in line with what "Republicans believe."

"What he said about abortion, for example, his absolute insulting action toward immigrants, calling them rapists and criminals, he is expressing, maybe in more colorful language, what Republicans believe," said Clinton.

She also called Trump's comments about prosecuting women who have had abortions "just a half step away" from what Republicans believe.

She also commented on the ongoing controversy about her use of a private email server, saying that while Republicans hope she'll end up in prison, "I know that they live in that world of fantasy and hope, because they've got a mess on their hands."

And as for going to prison, "the Republicans' fondest wishes will not be fulfilled," said Clinton.

"There is not even the remotest chance that is going to happen," she said. "But look, they've been after me, as I say, for 25 years. And they have said things about me repeatedly that have been proven to be not only false but kind of ridiculous," she said.
