Reid: Hillary Clinton Could Handle Things 'Even Better' Than Bill

By    |   Thursday, 25 July 2013 01:33 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he believes that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could handle things "probably even better" than her husband, former President Bill Clinton, if she were in the White House.

Speaking Wednesday on PBS's "News Hour," the Nevada Democrat said "I, of course, have such admiration for the president [Bill Clinton]. Remember, the last three or four years he was here we reduced the debt and created 22 million jobs — pretty good deal. And I think that they're a pretty good team, but she'll hand things probably even better than he did."

When anchor Judy Woodruff followed up, asking Reid if he was sure Hillary Clinton would do "even better," he answered, "Oh, yeah."

Reid also indicated he would like Clinton to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, saying, "Hillary Clinton may have a bigger fan than Harry Reid; I just don't know who it would be."

He continued, "I think what she did as a senator, what she did as secretary of state will go down in history books as a remarkable, remarkable job that she did."

Clinton has not yet said whether she will run, but she has been the Democratic frontrunner in recent polls.

A McClatchy-Marist poll released Wednesday showed that 63 percent of Democratic primary voters favor Clinton, compared to 13 percent who would choose Vice President Joe Biden. No other potential candidates received more than 6 percent from primary voters.
