Former President Bill Clinton is headed to Chicago Tuesday to campaign for his former staffer Rahm Emanuel, who’s running for mayor. Not everyone in the Windy City is too happy about the move,
Politico reports.
Clinton will host a rally for Emanuel at the Chicago Cultural Center. When Emanuel said last month that Clinton would be campaigning for him at some point before the Feb. 22 primary, several African-Americans candidates for the post told the former president to mind his own business.
Emanuel’s strongest challenger, former Senator Carol Moseley Braun, called Clinton “an outsider parachuting in to support another outsider.” He “risks his legacy and the great respect he has enjoyed among African Americans by coming to Chicago to endorse Rahm Emanuel,” she says.
Emanuel leads Moseley Braun 42 percent to 26 percent in a poll conducted last week for the Chicago Teamsters Joint Council.
