Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, introduced a bipartisan bill Tuesday that would require senators and their staffers to undergo sexual harassment training.

Politico reported that the proposal's co-sponsors include Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis.

"I believe each of you works hard to ensure that your offices are professional, free of harassment, and places where merit's rewarded," Grassley told fellow senators, Politico reported.

"But I think we have to acknowledge that in our society, despite our best efforts and intentions, sexual harassment remains a serious problem. And we must work together to make sure that the Senate remains free from harassment."

The issue of sexual harassment has gained additional attention over the last month because of several allegations leveled at disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Kevin Spacey, and others. There have also been allegations of sexual assault within the halls of Congress.

Grassley's bill would require senators and members of their staff to undergo sexual harassment training within 60 days of the Senate Rules Committee implementing the new rule.

Gillibrand is also putting together her own legislation related to combatting sexual harassment on Capitol Hill.
