Grassley Predicts Kavanaugh Vote by End of Month

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley Thursday, before confirmation hearings resumed for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said he believes a full confirmation vote will come by either Sept. 27 or 28, but the ballot will be tight.

"I think there will be about 50 core votes for him," the Iowa Republican told Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria."

"If we get at least 50 votes, we are going to get four or five Democrat votes. If we don't have 50 votes from Republicans, then he won't get on the Supreme Court, because [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer is not going to let any one of the Democrats vote for him to be the 50th vote."

Grassley said he believes Americans watching the proceedings are seeing in Kavanaugh a "very well qualified" nominee.

"Nobody yesterday could put a glove on him in regards to qualifications," said Grassley. "That is why, for the lasat two months, all you have heard is things about him to detract attention from his good qualifications, namely, the whole issue about how many pages should be available about him.

"There is already 488,000 pages available. That is more than the last five Supreme Court justices combined."

Meanwhile, he said all Supreme Court nominations have become very political, but he said he runs his committee by allowing everyone to ask all the questions they want, "because if you don't do that you spend more time arguing why they should not do it."
