President Donald Trump has discussed with his advisers the possibility of firing FBI Director Christopher Wray after the election, in part because the bureau is not delivering Trump a political shot in the arm in the final weeks of the campaign.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that Trump is disappointed that the bureau, and also Attorney General William Barr, have not said that Joe Biden's son Hunter is under investigation in regard to a hard drive that purportedly belonged to the younger Biden. Joe Biden has been accused of meddling in his son's business dealings with China, Ukraine, and other countries, which Trump and others say was illegal and should land him in prison.

Trump painted his 2016 opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, in much the same way during the final weeks of the campaign because of her use of a personal email setup while she was secretary of state. Clinton was never charged with a crime, but Trump and his supporters called for her to be locked up.

Trump, according to the Post, wants Wray to make an announcement similar to the one former FBI Director James Comey gave 11 days before the 2016 election: Comey said the FBI was taking another look at the Clinton case, although he said days later that nothing would change about the bureau's recommendations not to file charges. Trump is looking for Wray to do something similar about Biden to boost his reelection chances, the Post reported.

Trump is also unhappy with Wray regarding his refusal to declassify more documents pertaining to the Russia probe and his statements about antifa and voter fraud.

Trump has been critical of Barr in recent weeks. During an interview with Newsmax TV, he refused to say whether he would keep Barr in his role at the top of the Department of Justice should he win reelection.

The hard drive that purportedly came from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden was already part of a 2019 money laundering probe at the FBI, it was reported Wednesday. The status of that investigation is unclear.

Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani has a copy of the hard drive and said it contains emails that tie the Bidens to Ukraine and China, along with compromising photos and videos of Hunter Biden.
