Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy on Wednesday supported the move of fellow liberal Dianne Feinstein to unilaterally release the August testimony of Fusion GPS chief Glenn Simpson.

"I think it was the right move," Murphy told CNN "New Day" host Chris Cuomo, who challenged the Connecticut Democrat's answer, given that Feinstein didn't consult with Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley.

"The Republicans on that committee didn't consult with her with respect to their referral to the Department of Justice," Murphy said, referring to Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham's decision last week to refer British spy and dossier author Christopher Steele to the DOJ for a criminal probe into his truthfulness.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday was critical of "sneaky" Feinstein.

Either way, Murphy said it all doesn't matter; nothing was ever going to come from any congressional committee investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

"I think it's just another reminder that if we're going to get to the bottom of what happened … it's going to come through Bob Mueller's investigation," Murphy said on CNN. "I've always been skeptical that the Judiciary Committee or the Intelligence Committee was going to keep Republicans and Democrats together on their own investigations.

"We've gotta count on Mueller being the only place that's going to ultimately get to the facts here," Murphy said.
