Sen. Coons: Trump Kept Campaign Promise of 'Unpredictable' Foreign Policy

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., addressed the White House statement implying retaliation against new usage of chemical weapons by Syria, saying President Donald Trump has kept his campaign promise to be "unpredictable in foreign affairs."

"As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria," the White House statement addressing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad read, according to NBC News. 

"If, however, Mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price."

One unnamed U.S. official told NBC: "I don't know what the [White House] statement is."

Coons, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program on Tuesday when asked about the White House statement that "candidate Trump said he would be unpredictable in foreign affairs, and President Trump has certainly delivered on that."

He added that he's "received no other briefing of any kind" on Syria other than reading the statement.

When asked about U.S. Ambassador to the United Nation Nikki Haley's tweet on Syria, the senator said, "I continue to be uncomfortable with foreign-policy decisions made by tweet."

Any further attacks done to the people of Syria will be blamed on Assad, but also on Russia & Iran who support him killing his own people.
