Anyone who works in the White House should be held to account for decisions made in the administration, Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former president Bill Clinton, said Monday regarding Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump's daughter.

"I think anyone who works for the president … should expect to be scrutinized for whatever decisions not only she or he is making, but whatever decisions the White House is making on any given day," Clinton said Monday on CBS' "Late Show With Stephen Colbert."

She said that she and Ivanka Trump have "absolutely" been friends. "I have not spoken to her in a long time.

"It's clear that she has supported policies and decisions that I don't agree with. I've been very vocal about my opposition to President Trump," Clinton noted.

"Could you call her up and say, 'Hey, maybe no war with North Korea?'" host Stephen Colbert asked.

"I certainly am just really sad that we're at a point in time that that even has to be said … I mean, that we're at a point in time where we have a president who has such a callous disregard for a thoughtful, coherent, kind of expert-advised foreign policy is something I would hope, regardless of where we sit on the political spectrum, we could agree on," Clinton said.

She also took aim at the Trump administration during the interview. "I think, unfortunately, this administration is the collision of cruelty and incompetence."

The former first daughter has defended Barron Trump, President Trump's youngest son, against criticism. He "deserves the chance to be a kid," Clinton said in January 2017.
