CBC's Cleaver: Obama Won’t Have Easy Re-election

By    |   Monday, 10 January 2011 05:03 PM EST

It’s not just Republicans who say President Barack Obama is in trouble when it comes to the 2012 election. Missouri Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said in a speech Monday that Obama will face a tough fight, The Hill reports, citing NBCWashington.com.

CBC,Emanuel Cleaver,Obama,2012“It's realistic for our party to understand the enormous challenge we're going to have, to get him back in the White House in 2012," Cleaver said.

"It will not be a landslide or an easy victory. We're going to have to scrape and battle for every vote we get," he added.

Supporters wanted too much out of Obama, Cleaver said. "The majority of Americans placed inflated expectation on candidate Obama and some even placed all of their hopes and dreams in him.

"No human being could have performed at the level of expectation in such a short period of time."
