Delta Airlines was wrong to drop a discount for National Rifle Association members, Georgia's Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."

"I have to govern based on principles, and obviously, they have a choice to make," Cagle said.

"I have been very clear with Delta that I wish they would take their boycott out and away from the NRA, but sadly enough, it doesn't sound like they're going to … they chose to single out the NRA and their membership — law-abiding gun owners — and I don't think that's right," he said.

"Delta has taken action to be very punitive against a principled position that we as Second Amendment defenders have chosen to take."

The airline is the state's number-one employer. "Obviously Delta is free to make any decision that they want to … oftentimes, you know, families do get into squabbles. They are a family member here in Georgia," Cagle said.

"Had they treated everyone in terms of their discounts fairly, we wouldn't be in this situation."

Georgia's House of Representatives approved a $40 million tax break for Delta, which is based in Atlanta, but the state Senate has not acted on the bill. Cagle tweeted on Monday that he would kill any legislation that benefits the company unless they change their position on the NRA discount.

In the wake of the Parkland, Florida shooting on Feb. 14, Delta and other companies announced the discontinuance of discounts to NRA members.
