Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said Thursday she thinks talks on border security are heading in the right direction after Wednesday's meetings, and there are a "lot of doors" that have been open on both sides.
"There is enough that we can find a sweet spot with the president and others to be able to create barriers, technology, more people, more personnel, all the things we agree on" the West Virginia Republican said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
"We're not easily stopped or impeded. So we'll keep working hard."
However, even if President Donald Trump's call for $5.7 billion for wall construction isn't approved, Moore does not agree with comments that it would cause him trouble being reelected in 2020 or end his ability to be an effective president.
"I don't think any one thing ends anybody's presidency," said Moore. "The president has been very, very firm on this because the data backs up the realization that walls and barriers do work. Where walls have been placed the over 600 miles that we have, the influx of illegal immigration has gone drastically down."
In Texas, she added, there are places "where people are flooding in at over 1,5000 a night" because there is nothing blocking them. "Whether it's a wall, a levy, a barrier, a vehicle gate, all of the different options I would put under the category of a wall is very much needed there."
