With recounts of the Nov. 4 elections completed in California, Democratic Rep. Ami Bera has defeated former Republican congressman Doug Ose in Sacramento County, and Rep. Jim Costa has overcome a surprisingly strong challenge from Republican Johnny Tacherra in Central Valley, reports say.

Bera pulled ahead by 1,432 votes in his tight race, while Costa captured 1,319 more votes than Tacherra, who is a dairy farmer, The Los Angeles Times reported, citing The Associated Press for the results of Costa-Tacherra race.

Ose has conceded and congratulated Bera.

Democrats will send 39 of California's 53 House members to Washington next year, according to the Times.

There is still one House race pending, not including the Dec. 6 runoffs in Louisiana.

In Arizona's 2nd District, Republican challenger Martha McSally is ahead of Democratic Rep. Ron Barber by 161 votes, Politico reported, adding that a legal challenge is possible.
