Former President George H.W. Bush, whose quiet competence in office already has been overlooked by many historians, rarely waffles in his views. So it’s no surprise that he’s already endorsing a successor to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, who just announced her retirement last week. Bush is endorsing former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams at an event Monday afternoon,
The Hill reports, citing The Texas Tribune.
“The endorsement is an early boost for Williams, who has been running for the Senate seat for the better part of two years, and is likely to face a crowded Republican primary,” according to The Hill. Bush, a longtime supporter of Hutchison, has remained active in Texas politics. He endorsed Hutchison in her unsuccessful GOP primary challenge to Gov. Rick Perry last year.
