A former strategist to Jeb Bush who left the GOP over then-candidate Donald Trump, told Buzzfeed News that Republicans "deserve the reckoning that will eventually come" if President Trump ends the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Sally Bradshaw, one of five authors of a 2012 "autopsy" that detailed the faults of the Republican Party in the aftermath of Mitt Romney's loss to Barack Obama, was asked by Buzzfeed her thoughts about Trump's reported decision to end DACA.

"Donald Trump is anti-woman, anti-Hispanic, anti-black, anti-anything that would bring the country together," Bradshaw told Buzzfeed. "The only thing he is for is himself.

"Those in Republican leadership who have enabled his behavior by standing silent or making excuses for him deserve the reckoning that will eventually come for the GOP," Bradshaw told Buzzfeed. "It makes me terrifically sad, to be honest."

Bradshaw, Bush's top adviser in his bid to become the Republican nominee for president in 2016, left the Republican Party after Bush bowed out to become an independent, and vowed to vote for Hillary Clinton instead of Trump.

"I can't look my children in the eye and tell them I voted for Donald Trump. I can't tell them to love their neighbor and treat others the way they wanted to be treated, and then vote for Donald Trump," Bradshaw told CNN in August 2016.

Bradshaw, also an adviser to George H.W. Bush, was one of five authors of the "Growth and Opportunity Project" that detailed what the GOP must do after its defeat in 2012.

One of the group's recommendations, four years before Trump's hardline immigration stances came to the fore — embrace Hispanics.

"President George W. Bush used to say, 'Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande and a hungry mother is going to try to feed her child.' When Hispanics heard that, they knew he cared. … Because his first sentence struck a chord, Hispanic Americans were willing to listen to his second sentence.

"If Hispanic Americans perceive that a GOP nominee or candidate does not want them in the United States (i.e. self-deportation), they will not pay attention to our next sentence. It does not matter what we say about education, jobs or the economy; if Hispanics think we do not want them here, they will close their ears to our policies," read the report.
